Hayley's Hero.

"Helen! Helen!" Cried Helen's younger sister Hannah. "Hayley's hand is stuck."

Helen turned around from the stove. She was making supper for her younger brother Henry, Her twin little sisters Hannah and Hayley, and their two best friends, Rebeca and Sage. Their parents were out for the night and it was Helen’s job to watch the little ones.

"How is her hand stuck?" In a calm voice, Helen asked looking into six year old, Hannah's green eyes.
"It's stuck in the rain pipe, on the side of the house." Hannah almost cried "Please hurry."

"OK. Ok I'm coming." Helen said. Hannah grabbed her by the hand and dragged her outside and around the house, where the girls had been playing.

Helen had to keep herself from laughing out loud. Hayley was sitting by the house, her left hand stuck in the rain pipe. Poor Hayley, she looked so pitiful.

The two other girls Sage and Rebeca, were standing off to one side, also looking worried.

"How did you get your hand in there?" Helen asked walking up two her little sister, and kneeling down.
"I was trying to get the bouncy ball out." Hayley said in very pitiful voice.

'What was the ball doing in there in the first place?" Helen asked, giving Hannah a glance, that told her that Helen new she was involved somehow.

"I don't know." Hayley said.

"Ok." Helen took a big breath and said "Hanna go get some soap, Rebecca go get some ice and Sage go get Henry.'

While the three girls took off, around the house. Helen gently tugged at Hayley’s hand. Hayley gave a cry of pain. "Sorry." Helen said softly "Don't worry, we will get our hand out."

The three girls came back in no time, with Henry, soap, and some ice.

"Is her hand really stuck?" Henry asked concern showing on his face.

Helen nodded, "Let's try the soap first." She said sighing.

The soap did not work, nor did the ice.Or olive oil. Helen sat back on her heels and though for a moment. Surely there was some way to get Hayley's hand out.

"What are you going to do now?" Asked Little Rebecca.

What was Helen going to do? She couldn't think of anything else to try. Her thoughts were interrupted by Hannah saying to her twin, "Don't worry, I will help you get out."

"Yes, yes you will." Said Helen, having a idea.

"Really!" Hannah said excited "What can we do?"

"I want the three of you to pick up all the toys, here and over in the driveway." Helen said standing up "So the fire truck will not run them over."

"You're going to call the fire department?" Henry asked surprised.

"She's going to call the fire department!" Shouted the three girls. They quickly started to pick up the toys.
Helen turned to Henry and asked."Could you go and watch supper. I left it on the stove."

"Ok." Henry said, he turned around and went into the house. Henry was like that, hardly giving away how he felt.

Helen called 911. Afterwards she sat down by Hayley and talked to her while she stroked her blonde hair. When the three girls were done picking up the toys, they came over and talked to each other, till they heard the sirens.

*************************************************************************************
Jason sat at the table, looking at his coffee. It had been a long morning, in the station, and this was the first time he was able to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee.

The other firefighters were busy in their own way. Jason's partner Taylor was reading, others were playing or watching chess, while the captain was doing a report.

Jason's thoughts were interrupted with the alarm going off again. "Station 38, child stuck. 162 Velma Way, cross street Winchester road."

It only took a few minutes before Jason and Taylor were pulling into the yard. A young woman in her early twenties, was waiting in front of the house. She was blonde and had green eyes. She smiled at them when they got out of the squad.

"Are you the one that called?" Taylor asked, as the two walked up to the woman.

"Yes." The woman replied, half amused. "It's my little sister that’s stuck."

The woman led both men to the other side of the house. At the very far corner, Jason saw a girl about six, blonde and green eyes, like her older sister, sitting on the ground her left hand stuck in the house's rain pipe.

Standing to one side were three other girls, all about the same age as the girl that was stuck. One of the girls looked exactly like the one that was stuck. And the other two must of been friends, one was a black haired girl, while the other one was brown hair.

Jason knelt by the girl that was stuck, and started to see if he could get it out, while he said in a very calm and friendly voice to the girl, "Hi, my name is Jason and my partner is Taylor. What's your name."

"Hayley." The little girl said shyly. Before crying out in pain as Jason tried to remove her hand from the pipe.
" It's really stuck in there, isn't?" Jason said playfully to the little girl.

"Are you going to cut off her hand?" The girl that looked exactly like Hayley asked.

"HANNAH!" The older one shouted, then added quieter "Why don't you three, go see if Henry needs help with supper."

"But..." Hannah said but stopped when she saw the look on the older girl's face.

As the three girls raced around the house the older one yelled "And don't catch the kitchen on fire, this time!"

"you're not going to cut my hand off, are you?" The girl said in a half whisper.

"No, I think we will be able to get it out, without cutting your hand." Jason said cheerfully.

Jason looked up at his partner. "I'll get some cutter."  Taylor said. He turned around and headed back to there truck.

Taylor came back with some cutters and Jason went to work. First he cut just above the curve of the pipe, once that was done, he very carefully started to cut down the pipe moving closer to Hayley.

"It's free, it's free!" Hayley shouted as soon as her hand was free. "Oh, thank you so much, Mr Jason!" With this she threw her hands around Jason's neck. He was still kneeling on the ground and had to put out his arm to stop himself form falling.

Hayley let go of Jason then threw her arms around Taylor. Both Jason and the young woman bit there tongues, so they wouldn't laugh out loud.

"Yes, thank you very much." The woman said.

"let me look at our hand real quick." Jason said taking her hand and examining it. "It's a little swollen, so I would put some ice on it." He said the last part to Hayley’s sister.

"Thank you so much." The woman said, taking Hayley's hand.

The two girls walked Jason and Taylor to their truck. As they pulled out of the driveway, the two girls waved at them. Jason waved back and smiled. He was tired but a job well down always made him happy.
