Four Travilers. Chapter Two Their flight.

  Chapter two. Their flight.

“Hey Alice.” Bella said from the driver seat. “Would you by any chance know how to tell if we're being followed?”

The other people in the RV, including Wess turned to her in surprised.

“Why do you ask?” Alice inquired.

“Well.” Bella began “ There is this black SUV, behind us. I slowed down so he could pass, but he just slowed down also.’

Alice made her way to the front and looked through the rear view mirror, and yes there was a SUV behind them.

“Pull over.” Alice commanded Bella.

Bella did as she was told. The SUV behind them started to pull over also, but before they could, Alice took the driver's seat, making Bella move to the back.

Alice hit the gas pedal and went down the road as fast as she could. The SUV followed close behind.

“Who are they?” Donna asked hastily.

Alice shook her head. “I don’t know.”

To say the least, the SUV was faster than the RV. It pulled up right by Alice and proceed to try to run them off the road.

Alice managed to stay on the road, many years as a cop helped with that. But she had to think fast, she couldn’t keep this up much longer.

Hitting the breaks, the RV fell back behind the SUV. Before they could respond, Alice hit the back end of the SUV, sending both cars into a controlled spin.

The SUV went off the road, into a dich. Alice hit the gas again and they sped off.

“Is it over?” Donna quietly asked. Alice nodded her head.

“What was that about”? Bella asked from the back. “What did they want?”

“You mean despite killing us?” Casey said smugly.

“It doesn't matter right now.” Alice said to her sisters. “I got there license plate so when we're done here we can give it the cops.”

Alice looked at them through the rear view mirror. For some reason Wess didn’t make eye contact with her, cconfirming her hunch.

The Rest of the drive was uneventful. At the gas station, Alice took Wess’s right arm over her shoulder, Casey would of done the same with the other but Alice had just managed to stop the bleeding, and his arm was in a sling.

The bullet went all the way through, and Alice had stop the bleeding.

In the gas station the attendant at first looked up at the girls and Wess with boredom, but as soon as he had a good look at Wess he jump to his feet.

“What in tarnation's happened to you!?” the man asked in a heavy English accent.

“He was shot.” Alice quickly explained “We need to use your phone, to get help.”

“Oh, of course.” The man said. He led them to the back were Alice put Wess on a couch. Using a pay phone Bella called for help, while Casey and Alice tried to make Wess comfortable.

As they waited, Alice told the gas attendant all that had happen, while Bella and Casey roamed the aisles of the store, and Donna stayed in the back with Wess.

Their  quite chatter was interrupted by gunshot and the glass in front of the store shattered. The three sisters ducked behind some aisles, while the gas attendant  ducked under the counter.

More gunshots  rang out. Alice pulled out her 22 pistol that she always carried. Moving quickly she fired back, at what she now saw as about five men, wearing dark clothing and ski masks.

Alice’s pistol went off and one of the men fell, the others took cover. It was a full out fire fight now.

Sadly Alice was out numbered, even though she was a good shot, there were more men. Fear shot down Alice's back when she heard gunshots coming from the back room.

Donna didn’t have a gun. None of the sisters had guns, the closest would be the shotgun in the RV. Some of the men must of came around the back.

Alice’s fears were relieved, when both Donna and Wess stumbled out of the back room, and Wess was holding a handgun in his good hand. He proceeded to help Alice in the firefight.

“MISS ALICE!” Wess shouted over the gunshots “The back!”

Alice instantly understood. She pushed her three other sisters towards the back, Wess constantly giving them cover.

The group was about to get into the RV, but Casey noted that the tiers were all flat.

“What are we going to do?” Bella shouted.

Alice looked around franticly. “The SUV.” She said pointing to the shooters black SUV. The five of them climbed into it, as quick as they could. How did they get there?

Alice taking the driver’s seat, the sped down the road towards the nearest town.

“What on earth was that!?” Bella almost shouted.

Alice shook her head “I don’t know.” glancing at Wess in the rear view mirror she asked “Where did you get the gun.”

Wess shook his head “I had it in a shoulder holster.”

“Why didn’t I notice?’ Alice half mutter to herself.

“Maybe you were to occupied with the fact that you hit someone.” Casey stated.

“I didn’t hit him.” Alice said shortly “I grazed him. There’s a different.”

“Felt like you hit me.” Wess said grinning.

Alice was going to apologies but Donna asked in a trembling voice. “What are we going to do now?”

“Get Wess to a hospital.” Alice answers. “And probably go to the cops.”

“No hospitals.” commanded Wess.”Or cops.”

All four girls looked at him in surprised.

“And why not?” Bella asked.

“If someone is looking for one of us.” Wess explained “They are going to look in a hospital.”

“But if we go to the hospital the police will be notified.” Argued Alice. “Besides you're going to bleed to death, unless it can be sewn up.”

“I’m fine.” Wess said. “No hospitals.”

The four girls were quiet for awhile, before Alice said as calmly as she could. “It’s late. When we get to the town, we will find some place to stay. And tomorrow we will figure something out.”

No one disagreed, so that exactly what they did. They got into town almost eleven- thirty. They got a room. Alice was the last one to fall asleep.

She had too much on her mind. What were they going to do tomorrow? Who is trying to kill them and why? Who was Wess? And how was she going to keep her sisters safe?

The questions swirled in her mind, it was very late when she fell asleep.

To be continue.
